Logithon 2023: Nurturing Saudi Arabia’s Supply Chain Talent

In the ever-changing global economy, Saudi Arabia is at a crucial point in its journey, working towards its Vision 2030 plan. This plan aims to help the nation reach its full potential by diversifying its economy, reducing its reliance on oil, and fostering prosperity through innovation and global partnerships. The vision was cascaded into strategic objectives enabled by vision realization programs.

One of these programs is the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program (NIDLP), launched in 2019. It focuses on developing sectors like mining, energy, industry, and logistics. The goal is to make Saudi Arabia a major industrial powerhouse and logistics hub while encouraging local businesses and improving infrastructure as part of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. Since the launch of NIDLP, Saudi Arabia has climbed up 17 positions in the latest global Logistics Performance Index 2023 published by the World Bank, ranking 38th among 139 countries.

Logithon 2023: Making a Difference

Logithon 2023 emerges as an enabler that integrates with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. Organized in partnership with the Middle East Logistics Institute (MELI) and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Transport and Logistics Services, Logithon is a competition that manifests the Kingdom’s commitment to excellence in supply chain and logistics. We believe that events like the supply chain challenge competition Logithon 2023 will nurture talent and innovation in the supply chain sector. Logithon contributes significantly to the Vision 2030 program’s goals. It’s about creating a skilled workforce that can plan and operate the supply chains essential to the nation’s economic sustainability.

Over 700 participants, organized into 60 teams from universities, technical colleges, and companies across Saudi Arabia, take part in Logithon. What makes Logithon special is that it’s based on real-world scenarios. Participants will design and simulate real supply chains using the SCM Globe software.  The supply chains that participants will work with are inspired by the operations of a major Saudi Arabian company. This year, Logithon is held alongside the Supply Chain and Logistics Conference 2023 in Riyadh, giving participants a chance to learn from industry experts. The Contest now begins. The journey started with an intensive week of SCM Globe training from September 17th to 24th, equipping participants with the skills they need. On October 5th, the official start date, participants and teams will face complex supply chain challenges. Afterward, it’s all about the first round of Qualifications, leading to the grand finale on October 22nd and 23rd, where contest finalist teams will present their supply chain designs to a panel of judges at the Supply Chain and Logistics Conference 2023.
